Owning an XBOX 360, I knew of the inherent problem of the “Red Ring of Death” when I bought my console almost 2 years ago. Even knowing this I still purchased one and expected to have an enjoyable time playing games on it. This past weekend, it happened. I was just starting in on what would probably be a few hour session of online multiplayer with a friend on Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. We had just found each other and started playing, or I should say dying a lot. We were still having fun even if we were constantly being downed. All of a sudden the game freezes and I think that this is just a game freeze. I turned off the XBOX and wait a few moments before turning it on. After powering the console back on, my controllers are not syncing like usual and seem to take forever. So off goes the XBOX again and my thoughts begin to let in the potential “Red Ring of Death” but still nothing yet. The console is flashing normal green lights at startup, but then my heart sinks. My eyes burn red and only from the flashing of 3 sinister red lights.

DEAD!!!!

I’m mentally cursing the thing and finally call my buddy to explain why I can’t join back up in the match. Frustrated, I complete a repair request and ready the “paperweight” to go in for surgery. I also immediately received some tips to try and revive it but my console is still covered under warranty. I figure I’ll let Microsoft deal with it that way if it’s still having problems, I know I’m not to blame.

So now I’m waiting for my console to be fixed and sent back to me.
